We are extending our offering beyond the manufacture and supply of traffic management and street lighting products, to provide Unmetered Supplies (UMS) testing services to manufacturers with UMS inventories, through our accredited (UMS) test house.
An Unmetered Supply refers to any electronic equipment that draws a current and is connected to the Distribution Network without a meter recording its energy consumption, with ELEXON responsible for issuing charge codes to product manufacturers. A charge code is a 13 digit number assigned to every piece of UMS apparatus and is used to calculate volumes of electricity consumed.
The use of UMS apparatus is heavily regulated and any manufacturer developing new UMS equipment must apply for a charge code, with all applications required to be supported by test data, undertaken by an accredited UMS test house. We are proud to be an ISO 17025 accredited test house with the capabilities to test all equipment between 230 volts and below within the laboratory at our Oldbury site in the West Midlands.
Gaining ISO 17025 accreditation to enable us to test all our own products, we are now extending this service to all manufacturers and local authorities requiring UMS testing. Offering further flexibility, we can purely undertake the testing and provide test data to the customer or we can also assist with the application process.
Commenting on our testing capabilities, our Test Laboratory Manager, Kishan Ram said: “We have invested in our laboratory testing facilities to assist our own business and increase efficiency of the UMS charge code application process. We are now opening up this service to the wider industry to try and take the hassle out of obtaining UMS charge codes for our customers.”
