The Revolution has begun
(Cue dramatic music)
Tuesday 17th June 2014, a date to be marked down in history as the future of road humps is changed forever.
Introducing the TransCalm, a responsive speed control system. A road hump like no other. TransCalm is a totally unique, patented, solution that alters its firmness based on the velocity of the vehicle passing over it. Built using proven pneumatic valve technology, developed into an easy to install, low maintenance, traffic calming solution.
The TransCalm is the first of its kind, installed at Signature House, Oldbury near Birmingham, United Kingdom.
The development team comprising of David Franklin and Kishan Ram (Signature Ltd), Stephen Tyler (Pell Frischmann), and Dave Minton from Fischer completed the installation in no time at all. The estimated installation time for a 2 man installation team would be circa 90 minutes.
Fisher’s OEM Manager David Minton assisted in the initial installation of the Transcalm, his job was to ensure that all variables that could affect the product were overseen, these include the substrate, drilling technique and installation of fixings.
Fischer are fully supportive of the Transcalm and see this as an amazing innovation for a demanding market.
Due to the TransCalms modular design, the unit is easily be transported to site. Each module is light enough to be handled by just one person and positioned on to the road surface. Each fixing point acts as a drilling guide for quick and easy installation. The unit is securely fixed to the asphalt using Fisher FUR anchors. Once the TransCalm is bolted down, the air cylinders and valve modules is installed in to the central recess. Finally the canopy is attached completing the installation.
The TransCalm project started in 2001, with the purpose of saving lives by reducing the speed of traffic in vulnerable areas. The ethos behind the project was to engineer an innovative traffic calming solution in the simplest, most reliable way possible. The innovation was, and is, to use proven, tested technologies but to apply them in a radically new way.
The new TransCalm is produced by Signature (Mallatite Ltd) in conjunction with Pell Frischmann, who have developed the original innovation into a transferable, bolt down version.
