Under the requirements of the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Regulations 2013 (WEEE) as a manufacturer of luminaires, Mallatite Limited are legally obliged to register as a producer of Electrical and Electronic Equipment and be registered under a scheme for the recovery, treatment and recycling of all Electrical and Electronic Equipment that is produced and placed on the market by the manufacturer, e.g. traffic sign lights, etc.
As this scheme must be financed, the costs are therefore re-charged to the customer, as permitted under the regulations. All luminaires will then be recovered for treatment/recycling at the end of life by the scheme provider.
Where any luminaires require recovery under the scheme, the customer should contact Mallatite with the details and we will then arrange this through our scheme provider.

Internally illuminated box signs and base lights are exempt from WEEE.

The original Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment recycling (WEEE) Directive came into force in 2006 in the UK, with that came the associated requirements for the recovery, reuse, recycling and treatment of WEEE. The Waste Electric and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Regulations 2013 (“the Regulations 
”) became law in the UK on the 1st of January 2014 and replaced the 2006 Regulations. The new Regulations transpose the main provisions of Directive 2012/19/EU on WEEE which recasts the previous Directive 2002/96/EC. These regulations also provide for a wider range of products to be covered by the Directive with effect from 1st January 2019.
